The single most badass community alpine ski race in this country takes place on Snow King, the Mini Hahnenkamm, tomorrow and Sunday, thanks to Rick Hunt of Fish Creek Excavation, who basically makes the Jackson Hole Town Downhill happen. The purse has been doubled this year. Expectations for a fierce race run high. Go get ‘em if you’re racing; go cheer ‘em if you’re not.

Randosteve was not my friend, I’m sorry to say.
I don’t exactly know why. Well, actually I do. Randosteve and I were/are both competitive J-Holers and were wary of each other. We were always cordial when we saw each other, but our conversations were stilted, terse. Which bummed me out, and probably him.
Quick trip to Indian Creek. We used the old school Fred Beckey technique of driving at night, and got four desert days in four days away.
Climbing in the desert at the moment, but my thoughts are with Julia, Reed, the folks at Skinny Skis, and all of Steve and Chris’s families and friends.
The mountains take two more heroes. May they fly forever.

I found Jess T. whacking the ice off her pick-up’s sled deck with an ice axe. When she stood up, the clouds were perfect.
