Whadja do for spring break?
Probably not this: famed Jackson Hole innkeeper Hans Johnstone and guide to the stars Kevin Mahoney did their springbreakin’ in the Swiss and French Alps, where they climbed three hardman alpine routes in eight days plane-to-plane: the north face of the Matterhorn, the north face of the Eiger, and the north couloir direct of the Dru.
On the first two legs, conditions were finicky. “The Matterhorn and the Eiger were not in good shape,” said Hans. “There wasn’t enough ice, everything was covered in powder. But the weather was splitter so we could plug away and get up the things.”
The Dru, on the other hand, offered good ice and dry rock, or in Hans’s words, “spring breezes and whatnot.”
Nice send, gentlemen, and thanks for sharing the pictures.
Check out this highly entertaining video from the Dru, shot the same day, with a cameo by Kevin and Hans.
